Witham: Cricketer Alastair Cook becomes record England century scorer
Cricketer Alastair Cook has become England’s most prolific century scorer.
Cook, 27, was brought up in Wickham Bishops with his two brothers by parents Stephanie and Graham, who still live in the village.
In 2006, the year he made his debut for England, he bought his first home in Witham, a two-bedroom coach house at The Maples development, on the Benton Park estate.
Last Wednesday, in Kolkata, India, the England captain scored his 23rd Test match century, more than any other Englishman.
In scoring 190 runs, he also became the youngest ever batsman to reach 7,000 Test runs, beating a record set by India’s Sachin Tendulkar.
