A LORRY has overturned across the central reservation of the A120.
The truck, carrying 26,500 kg of hay bales, was also on fire.
The accident happened shortly after 3.45pm on the westbound carriageway between Great Dunmow and Stansted.
No-one has been injured in the crash.
Fire crews from Stansted, Leaden Roding and Newport cooled down the lorry's brakes following the crash.
The road was closed in both directions at 4pm to allow emergency crews to deal with the incident.
It is expected the area will be affected for several hours while the lorry and its load are recovered from the scene and repairs made to the carriageway.
UPDATE: At 5.35pm one lane in each direction was re-opened past the scene.
