A despairing pensioner who fears he will be killed by speeding cars crashing into his house has built a concrete-enforced steel barrier in his garden.
Owen Allan, 75, of Beaufort Gardens, Braintree, was “forced” to build the barrier, which is filled with several inches of concrete and covered in reflective signs, after suffering 13 cars crashing into his property from 20mph zone Marlborough Road.
Mr Allan has written to Essex Police and Essex Highways, appealing for them to install stricter traffic-calming measures near the tight bend in the road but was furious to hear nothing could be done.
