POLICE are making "extensive inquiries" to find a man who tried to steal money from a bank.
The incident happened at Lloyds Bank, in Bank Street, Braintree, at 9.15am on Saturday.
A man entered the branch and passed a note to a cashier demanding money.
No money was handed over and he left.
DS Becky Young, of Braintree CID, said: “Officers are making extensive enquiries to identify the man and carried out a thorough search of the area.
“He was seen to head towards Bocking End, near Argos, and I would appeal for anyone who saw him before or after the incident to get in touch.”
The man is described as white, in his mid-20s and over 6ft tall. He was of slight build and wore a black beanie hat and a dark coat.
Police said when he went into the bank his face was partially covered by his hat and upturned coat collar but he may have removed his hat after leaving the bank.
Anyone with information is asked to call DC Nicholas Campbell at Braintree CID on 101.
