Cyclists are being reminded they face a £30 fine if they ride on town centre footpaths.
Police in Braintree will be issuing fixed penalties to anyone over 16 caught in the act in Braintree this month.
Sgt Matt Crow said: “We welcome cyclists in Braintree, and the vast majority stick to the designated routes, and leave their bikes secured in racks when they get to the town centre.
“Operation Salthouse is aimed at deterring the small number of people who ride their bikes on footpaths in the town centre, and any adult caught doing so should expect to receive a £30 fixed penalty notice.”
Those caught will also be given safety advice and told about safe cycling areas, which include designated routes in Weavers Park and Marshalls Park.
Police will send letters to the parents of anyone caught who is under 16, and they could be fined £30 if it happens again.
Officers are already teaching school children how to cycle safely and all cyclists can get their bikes postcode marked by appointment at Braintree Police Station.
