A rugby club has its sights set on league success after moving on from financial turmoil.
Witham Rugby Union Club, Spa Road, is looking to the future and also hoping to attract fresh young blood.
As many as 350 children from Chipping Hill, Elm Hall, Templars, Terling, Powers Hall and Holy Family Primary Schools, as well as pupils from Maltings Academy enjoyed a taste of the sport on September 15 -16.
Club president Nick Redfern said: “We’re hoping to get more youngsters involved in the club and advertise that we’re here.
“The club is certainly growing.
“We’ve moved forward massively since the financial problems.”
The 2012/13 season will mark the club’s golden anniversary, which is when it plans to return to competing in the Essex League division two after having withdrawn from the league in 2009/10.
Mr Redfern said: “We plan to re-enter the league and win it and end the season with a huge 50th anniversary celebration.”
