Cressing go-kart ace Tyrone Stansfield made at triumphant step up to the junior class in his first Easykart UK Championship outing in the older age group at Shenington.

Having impressed in the cadets over the last two years, the 13-year-old Alec Hunter Academy pupil, who is sponsored by G&B FINCH of Gt Leighs, K&B TATAM of Maldon and Kingwell Environmental of Long Green, Cressing, was competing in the juniors for the first time.

It meant a step up to a 100cc engine, but Stansfield was quickly on the pace as he set the fastest lap in qualifying to put himself first on the grid for the heat race.

With rivals pressing from behind, the Cressing ace held his position to take a maiden win as he took the chequered flag by just 0.151 seconds.

It meant Stansfield was back at the front of the grid for the pre-final, but another textbook start saw him maintain his position and although he was unable to shake off the second-placed driver, he crossed the line in the lead again.

A third strong start came from the front of the grid in the final and a flawless race saw yet another race win as Stansfield and the second-placed driver duelled to the chequered flag again and had opened up a 9.7-second lead from third place by the end.

Stansfield said: “I went into this weekend hoping for a top-ten finish and keeping up with my fellow former cadet mates, but I was pleasantly pleased with these results.”

The next meeting for Stansfield is in April at Teesside.
