It was a privilege to have Jean as a colleague for all of my 23 years at Alec Hunter. When I joined as a brand new teacher she was appointed my mentor - and did her very best to teach me how to survive in the classroom. I too was allocated to Drake House, and eventually for some years even assisted Jean as Drake Housemaster.
Jean was the absolute model professional of the 'old school'. She had amazing qualities - unswerving loyalty to the school, total dedication to the job, massively hardworking with tremendous attention to detail, utterly conscientious, taking everything in her stride with never a day off!
Above all she was committed to the wellbeing of her Drake House 'family', both staff and children. Most recognised this at school, others later on.
Thanks for the example Jean. Rest in peace, job well done.

Jean was my head of Drake House at Alec Hunter when I was a young teacher. She was also my union rep. and set me a great example of dedication and good humour. I still remember many of her assemblies and the poetry she would quote. And then in later years we'd often meet in Sainsbury's and have a chat at the bench near the check-outs. She was always great fun. And she always looked the same! May God bless you and look after you, Jean!

Jean was our neighbour at York Gardens for over 20years. A very kind lady who we will always be indebted to in our family time of need especially during our son’s terminal illness.
She always showed interest in our two sons. Our retriever craved her attention although often pinched Jean’s gardening gloves or her garments off her fire guard!
Rest in Peace Jean. We all loved you.
