A reading campaign has been praised for tackling low literacy.
Witham MP Priti Patel launched Get Witham Reading last April after the town came a lowly 398th out of 442 areas in the UK for English at Key Stage Two level.
Prime Minister David Cameron backed the campaign and a year later, 13 schools have seen more pupils attain levels two and four at Key Stages One and Two respectively.
