Priti Patel will become an honorary milk monitor on tomorrow as part of celebrations for World Milk Day.
The MP for Witham will visit Kelvedon St Mary’s C of E School to mark the World Milk Day, which takes place on September 25 and aims to encourage children to drink milk in school and understand the nutritional benefits it provides.
An estimated 1.5 million children under five enjoy free milk at school every day, while pupils aged five to 11 receive subsidised milk, which can build healthy bones, teeth and improve concentration, memory and creativitity.
John Sedgwick, managing director of Cool Milk, the UK’s leading milk supplier, believes that establishing healthy eating through milk schemes can be a vital part of a child’s education.
“School milk provides a great boost for children because it is such a wholesome and nutritional product,” he said.
“All children in nurseries and schools up and down the country should have access to school milk every day.”
