A friends group is calling for fresh support as it braces itself for a more significant role following proposed cuts at a historic attraction.
The Friends of Cressing Temple Gardens was only set up in March and already has 75 members, who provide financial support.
But chairman David Andrews, of Church Lane, Braintree, is now hoping for an influx of new members after Essex County Council (ECC) announced plans to slash the opening hours, with the visitor centre and tearoom earmarked for closure on week days, except during school holidays.
Concerns have been raised that the move could put jobs at risk.
Mr Andrews claims the budget for the gardens is already “pretty tight” but hopes more people will come forward not only to provide financial support, but to offer their services as volunteers.
