Two men are due to appear in court charged with having items for use in theft.
Police were called to a cashpoint in High Street, Chelmsford, at 5.10am yesterday after two people were reported to be behaving suspiciously.
Officers attended and discovered that the cashpoint appeared to have been tampered with.
Cristian Gherghel, 29, of Atherton Road, Ilford, and Vasile Kiraly, 19, of no fixed address, were charged with having a wooden lever, screwdrivers, glue and a camera for use in connection with theft.
The men have been bailed to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates Court on December 11.
