A theft victim has had her faith in human nature restored after a community rallied round her.
Widow Ivy Corneby, 78, of Witham, was shopping in the town’s Tesco when she realised her purse containing £60, her bus pass and cards had been stolen.
She spoke about her ordeal in last week’s paper in a bid to warn others that thieves are operating in Witham.
Mrs Corneby said: “I would like to thanks all the people who have sent their best wishes to me after having my purse stolen.
“I would like to say thank you also to the young lady who knocked on my door with some money that she had collected to give to me."
