Police are warning people to be on their guard this Christmas.
Inspector Mick Couldridge is hoping that by adhering to some simple advice, Halstead residents will help deter burglars over the festive period.
He said: “A general message for this time of year is to be mindful of home security and leaving valuable presents on show.
“It’s safer to keep them hidden until closer to Christmas Day.
“Burglars have no consideration for others and don’t care if they ruin someone’s Christmas.
“Demand for the latest must-have gadgets can fuel crime at this time of year.”
Insp Couldridge also warned that farms can be targets for thieves, with turkeys and Christmas trees commonly stolen.
He added: “We ask that our rural residents remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.”
