The superfast 4G network will be available in Braintree by Christmas, making it one of the best connected towns in the country.
The 4G network from EE is set to roll out to Witham and Halstead next year.
The service will be up to five times faster than the current 3G available on most mobile phones.
Councillor Chris Siddall, cabinet member for prosperity and growth, said: “The arrival of 4G mobile services in Braintree will be of great benefit to both local residents and businesses and will aid the ambitious targets we have set in terms of economic development in the district.
“The arrival of 4G makes this part of England one of the best connected areas in the UK.”
EE 4G mobile is now available in 160 towns, and EE is aiming for 90 per cent of the population to be covered by the end of 2014.
