A DINNER and dance thrown by a town mayor raised more than £800 for two charities.
Witham’s mayor Bill Rose hosted the party at the Spring Lodge Centre, in Powers Hall End, for Brainwave in Witham and Children with Cancer UK at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The 64 guests, including MP Priti Patel and Gerry Gould of Brainwave, enjoyed a three course dinner and entertainment from the Applejack Roadshow.
Raffle prizes were donated by friends and colleagues of Mr Rose as well as from retail, leisure and commercial organisations in Witham.
Mr Rose said: “The evening was a great success and was enjoyed by all the guests, many of whom stayed to the midnight hour before taking their leave.”
The mayor will complete a sponsored eight mile walk from Braintree Town Hall to Witham Town Hall on September 25 in aid of the two charities.
