A brave Braintree woman who beat breast cancer is set to take to the catwalk to kickstart Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Yetunde Daramola, 53, who was diagnosed with the deadly disease in 2005, was selected out of hundreds of applications to take part in the Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show.
On Thursday, October 4, she will join 31 other survivors at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel in London for the fundraiser, which is aiming to raise £320,000 for the life-saving charity.
Mrs Daramola, a teacher and healthier lifestyle mentor, was shocked when she discovered a lump at the age of only 40.
She said: "My children were very young at this time and it was a very trying and scary time for me, not knowing what the future would hold.
"I had just completed a post graduate degree in education and was looking forward to starting new career - I ended up starting breast cancer treatment.
"After chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy, I struggled to return to normal, but with the help of my friends and family and Breast Cancer Care, I slowly managed to put my life back together."
All of the models will be transformed from head-to-toe before hitting the runway and will be styled by famous fashion director Hilary Alexander OBE.
Guests will be treated to a fine dining experience, with games, entertainment and an auction rounding off the night.
Mrs Daramola, who now volunteers for Breast Cancer Care supporting survivors across Essex, said: "I’m so excited to take part in The Show and I can’t wait to step onto the catwalk in front of my friends and family and show everyone that a breast cancer diagnosis won’t stop you looking and feeling great.
"I am also doing this as a thank you to my children.”
