CARE Home staff used their imagination to help residents holiday in style with a ‘virtual world cruise’.
Residents at Longmead Court Nursing Home in Braintree were joined by their families for a virtual tour of the world, visiting ten countries, including Greece, Croatia, Italy and The Bahamas.
At each destination participants celebrated with themed food and drink, sensory experiences and an array of fun activities.
Home manager, Kelly Corrie said, “Many of our residents aren’t able to travel anymore, so we decided to bring the joy and excitement of a ‘world cruise’ directly to them from the comfort of their home.
“We wanted to create a memorable experience whilst supporting our residents’ mental and physical wellbeing. Running activities that provide a level of consistency over a period of time are fantastic for older people suffering with Dementia or memory loss.
“I’d like to thank all the relatives for getting involved in the initiative - it was lovely to see our residents, their loved ones and our staff engaging and interacting as one big Longmead family.”

Everyone was given the opportunity to sample an array of delicacies and non-alcoholic cocktails from around the world.
Resident Sheila Cook, 91, said, “I really enjoyed getting to spend time with everyone and sampling all the different food. The sweet bread from Montenegro was delicious and I also enjoyed the burgers and fries when we visited the USA.”
