A GRANDMA and great-grandma of 19 has celebrated a milestone birthday
Nada Edwards, a resident at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court Care Home, in Stisted, has celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her family, which she says is her “greatest love”.
Nada worked at the docks for the Royal Army Corps as a young woman before marrying her husband, Richard, in 1945.
They had met as teenagers at Scouts.
The couple went on to have three children and 19 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
When asked about her secret to a long and healthy life, Nada said her love of Guiding and being surrounded by young children has helped to keep her young at heart.
Activities co-ordinator at the care home Annette Price said Nada was a “remarkable woman”
She added: “Nada is a kind, calm, friendly and loving person to have around Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court.
“We were honoured to mark this celebrate milestone with such a remarkable woman.”
Nada celebrated with a small gathering with friends, family and residents as well as receiving a card from the Queen.
Nada was born in 1921 and was one of three children.
She attended school in Woodford before passing a scholarship to Walthamstow Commercial School and aged seven she became a Brownie, which was the beginning of a lifelong involvement and passion in Guiding.
She later went on to run a guide group as well as becoming a district commissioner.
