STAFF and residents at a care home have opened their doors to launch their unique new addition.

Bradbury Care Home, in Braintree, welcomed friends and relatives to its new bar to raise a glass to the care the home provided during lockdown.

Resident Ian was asked to cut the ribbon to officially opened the new addition.

Having a bar in the home was his wish, which has now become a reality.

Braintree Council chairman Sue Wilson and Caring Homes CEO Paul Jeffrey were also present at the opening of the ‘Bradbury Bar’.

Home manager Kirsty Allen opened the afternoon with a thank you speech to her team, giving special recognition to Louise who had completed five years of service at the home.

Kirsty went on to thank Corrinne for building the bar and Bernie and Stuart from the Boar’s Head for supplying drinks to finish off the bar.

Mrs Wilson congratulated the team on the amazing work they have done.

“I am here on behalf of Braintree Council to say thank you to all of the staff especially for looking after everybody,” she said and reminisced about her mum’s care home and the great work everyone working in care does.

“You have worked yourselves silly today and I think this home is absolutely super. I do hope you are going to use the new bar.

“The drinks are free, so please enjoy and thank you very much for asking me.”

Mrs Wilson spent time chatting with residents and families while listening to opera singer Yuri Sabatini.

Bradbury House is part of the Caring Homes group of 70 homes across the UK.

It was the company’s first home and opened in 1994.
