CONSERVATIVE MPs in mid-Essex have said the Prime Minister was right to apologies after admitting he attended a Downing Street party in May.
Boris Johnson admitted in the house of commons on Wednesday during PMQs to attending the party which allegedly took place while England remained under lockdown restrictions.
The Prime Minister is under intense pressure after revelations of an aide’s “bring your own booze” invite to Number 10 staff when gatherings were banned.
Mr Johnson offered an apology to the Commons yesterday during a fiery Prime Minister’s Questions after admitting he attended the gathering for “25 minutes”.
The revelation has been lambasted by opposition parties as well as by other Conservative MPs and comes following further controversy surround a Christmas Party held in 2020.
In response to the news, Braintree MP James Cleverly tweeted the PM was right to apologise.
He said: "As I said earlier today to the press in Brussels, the PM was absolutely right to make an apology today and explain what happened.
"It is now right to await Sue Grey’s findings."
Following the Prime Minister's apology, calls for him to resign as the nation;s leader have been growing stronger.
However despite the calls, the Homes Secretary had remained a faithful supporter of Boris Johnson.
A leaked Whatsapp message by Witham MP Priti Patel has been reported nationally.
In the message Ms Patel has called on ministers to support the PM.
She said: "Team, today the Prime Minister has given his heartfelt apologies and taken responsibility for what has happened.
"Thanks to Boris' majority, the work of this Government is so extensive, we continue to bring forward some of the biggest reforms in decades to Level Up - to the NHS, asylum system, housing and more.
"Now is the time to put our shoulders to the wheel and back Boris to deliver on the people;'s priorities."
