SPACE-LOVERS will be feeling out of this world at a stargazing event to show off the night sky.

The North Essex Astronomical Society is holding its first public stargazing event of the year at Great Notley Country Park, near Braintree.

The society puts on monthly stargazing events, run a young astronomers club and outreach groups visit schools and youth clubs.

Members have access to their own small observatory north of Colchester, where the club regularly meets.

Club secretary Clare Lauwerys said: “Our stargazing events are really popular.

“Some of our members take telescopes so members of the public can come and see the stars and ask questions.

“There is lots up there to see, and some don’t know what they are looking at.

“We love astronomy, love the night sky, and want to help people get into it.”

The free event is on Friday from 7pm to 9pm.

The event is weather depending, and those attending can check the forecast on the NEAS social media pages, or at northessexastro.co.uk.
