POLICE have released a man without charge after he was arrested on suspicion of having a firearm.
The man, 32, had been arrested in Braintree on Friday, February 25.
It came after officers with Essex Police were called just before 7.55am after receiving reports of a man in possession of what was believed to be a firearm.
The report said the man was driving down Bovingdon Road in Braintree.
Witnesses then reported seeing armed police and both marked and unmarked cars at the junction between Coldnailhurst Avenue and Arnham Grove.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence but now Essex Police say he has been released without charge.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called following a report that a man driving a vehicle in Bovingdon Road, Braintree, was in possession of what was believed to be a firearm.
"After extensive enquiries, a 32-year-old man who had been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence has been released without charge.
"Our enquiries have led us to believe there was no firearm."
