A PERSON has died after being hit by a train.
Someone has died after they were struck by a train near to Braintree on Saturday (March 5).
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Braintree at 6.59am on Saturday 5 March following reports of a casualty on the tracks .
"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Greater Anglia suspended trains between Witham and Braintree on Saturday morning as a result of the incident.
Eyewitness reports say there was a heavy police presence at Braintree station on the day, as trains were not running through the area for over an hour.
The incident also caused delays in surrounding such as Colchester and Clacton, and services from London Liverpool Street to other Essex stations that typically ran through the area were being terminated early.
Trains returned to normal about 90 minutes after the incident.
