DRIVERS are being told to expect long delays as police have closed the A12.
The A12 is closed southbound at junctions 22 and 21 near Witham and Hatfield Peverel.
It is also closed northbound within junction 21.
The road is shut due to a police incident.
Drivers are being told to allow for plenty of time if using the A12 or find and alternative route.
A spokesman for Essex Police added: "We are currently at the scene of an incident on the A12 at Hatfield Peverel.
"Our officers were called at 4.40pm today, Monday 11 April, following concerns for the welfare of a man.
"We have closed the A12 in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible."
