A SCOUTING group finally took a long journey north to enjoy a four-day trip to the Peak District, two years on from when it was originally planned.
The 1st Silver End Scouts took 12 girls, eight boys, and volunteer leaders up to the popular national park, where they took part in a variety of activities.
One day consisted of a 23-mile cycle across the High Peak trail and Tissington trail, combined with a three-mile hike, meaning the group completed a marathon distance in total.
The journey also took them underground too, as on another day they went deep underground with the Derbyshire Scouts Caving Team.
The Scouts had to crawl through holes and tight passages, really pushing them to their limits, but on completing it many had faced their fears.
Whilst in Matlock Bath, the group also had guided tours of the Peak District Mining Museum and Temple Mine to find out what life was like for the minors back in the Victorian times and what life was like in the area in the past.
The fun did not stop even after the event, as on their travels back to Essex, the journey was broken up with a stop at a pool in Bedford.
The Scouts’ next trip away is to Bournemouth in June where they learned to surf among other activities.
Scouts is open to girls and boys from ten to 14 years.
