A DANCE company returned to the stage to a sell-out crowd for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Taylor’s Dance Company, based in Braintree and Colchester, performed to a sell-out audience at Colchester's Mercury Theatre.
The dance school, based at Alec Hunter Academy, Marks Farm Community Centre and Black Notley Village Hall, features pupils ranging from two years old to 65.
In and around Colchester there are schools based at Kingsland Church, St Johns Green Primary School and William Loveless Hall, Wivenhoe.
Dance school principal Niki Taylor took over from Mandy Mason who retired in 2020, after running the school for 46 years.
She said: “I love running the school. I'm very grateful to do what I love as a job. It's wonderful seeing the children having fun and enjoying dancing.
“I have been running Taylor's Dance School in Colchester since 2015, but it was the first time I'd taken over another school.
“It was great back running an event. The school missed out on their show in 2020, so it was lovely for everyone to get their moment.
“We also had the chance to thank Mandy and her teaching team, Kirstin, Vicky, and Kelly, for all their years of hard work.”
The school performed shows every two years before the pandemic so was delighted to be back on stage.
Niki said: “All the pupils performed two or three dances in different styles during the show and performed dances to many musical icons.
“We practised for about six months in our weekly lessons, and the show was around two-and-a-half hours long, with 231 performers from Braintree and Colchester.
“It was a great success. We sold all the tickets, and everyone had a fantastic time both on stage and off stage.
“It was just a brilliant day. Everyone did an amazing job, and it was fantastic to be back on stage doing what we all love.”
The school is now preparing to host an Encanto-themed summer workshop on August 1 for children in reception to year 2 at Marks Farm Community Centre.
