EVERY year at the beginning of November, the sounds of fireworks fill the air as Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated.
Also known as Bonfire Night, it is an annual commemoration for the country to remember the historic event in 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the infamous Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords.
Across mid Essex, there are plenty of public displays for communities to enjoy, and here are some which you may want to attend.
In Braintree, there is the annual show at the rugby club in Beckers Green Road.
A staple event in the town for more than a decade, it is returning on November 5, opening at 5.30pm with the bonfire lighting at 7.45pm and fireworks display at 8pm.
Witham Rugby Club, in Spa Road, is putting on its annual display on November 4.
Gates open at 5.30pm, with the bonfire at 7.30pm and fireworks at 8pm.
In Halstead, the town football club is hosting its annual display at the Rosemary Lane football ground on November 5.
Gates open at 5pm with the display starting 6.30pm.
In Earls Colne, there will be a display at Earls Colne Primary School and Nursery on November 5, with all proceeds going to the school.
Gates open at 4.30pm for a 6.30pm display start.
In Maldon, the fireworks display returns to the Promenade Park on November 5.
Gates open at 5.30pm, with the lighting of the bonfire at 7pm before the fireworks commence at 7.30pm.
There are also displays at the Hare and Hounds in High Garrett, the Rivenhall Oaks Golf Centre in Witham, St Peter’s School in Coggeshall and the Chelmsford City Race Course, amongst plenty of others.
