RESIDENTS across the Braintree district turned out to see their skies light up as the country marked bonfire night.
Three of the biggest displays in the area were at Witham Rugby Club, Halstead Town Football Club and Braintree Rugby Club.
Hundreds of visitors turned up to watch the show with the fireworks making the evening skies a remarkable spectacle from the ground.
Chairman of Halstead Town Football Club Carl Pearse said he was amazed at the turnout.
He said: "Despite the wet weather the people of Halstead came out in force to the Halstead Town Football club firework night.
"The club had their highest attendance at their annual event with an amazing 1,868 people braving the conditions.
"The fireworks were supplied by local business Fury Works and provided a spectacular display.
"It was a special night for Simon and Emma Brown who were celebrating their 7th wedding anniversary.
"Simon and Emma first met at the football club and every year they come back to the firework night where it all started.
"The club would like to thank all that attended and hope they enjoyed the evening and we look forward to seeing them again next year.
"Also a big thank you to the Halstead Town Football Club committee and volunteers who worked extremely hard to make the event a success."
