LABOUR has gained a councillor on Braintree Council as the results of the two by-elections were revealed.
Yesterday, November 10, there were by-elections held for both the Braintree South ward and Coggeshall ward.
It came following the resignations of Braintree South Ward councillor Dean Wallace (Ind), and Coggeshall Ward councillor Nick Unsworth (Green).
Martin Green (Lab) was elected new councillor for Braintree South, receiving 372 votes.
The other candidates finished as follows: Stephen Canning (Con) with 317, and Simon Attwood (Green) with 134.
The turnout for the ward was 17.43 per cent.
In the Coggeshall ward, the turnout was 28.28 per cent, with Dennis Abram (Ind) elected with 576 votes.
Chris Siddall (Con) was runner-up with 451 votes, followed by Robert Powers (Lab) with 297.
The make-up of Braintree Council, 49 councillors in total, now stands at 33 Conservatives, six Green, four from the Halstead Residents Association, three Labour and three Independent councillors.
