FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire after a candle was left unattended.
Crews from Braintree and Chelmsford were at the incident in Great Leighs yesterday evening, February 21, at about 6.34pm.
The fire started accidentally after a candle was left unattended in the kitchen.
Crews extinguished the flames, but there was damage to part of the kitchen and appliances.
A fire service spokesman said: "This just highlights the importance of fully extinguishing candles and never leaving them unattended.
"Fortunately the homeowners acted quickly and were made aware because of working smoke alarms."
