A PIZZA takeaway giant has unveiled plans to open a new outlet next to a busy supermarket in one of Braintree’s largest residential communities.
Domino’s has been given permission to open next to Tesco in Notley Green.
The chain has been given permission to open between 11am and 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 10pm on Sundays.
Domino’s says it will generate a number of full-time and part-time employment opportunities for people in the area.
The premises will be serviced from the layby at the front of the property and the service lay-by at the southern end of the building.
The nearest Domino’s is currently in Coggeshall Road about four miles from where the company plans its newest outlet.
The application for change of use from a dry cleaner says: “The proposed takeaway use will be occupied by Domino’s Pizza and will sell pizzas and other baked goods for consumption off the premises.
“The premises is not located within 400 metres’ walking distance of any primary or secondary schools, however, it should be noted that in any case, pizza takeaways of this type are generally not attractive to children of school age, both due to the nature of the product, which is not easily portable for eating on-the-go, and the relatively high cost of meals which is beyond the means of most children.
“It is also important to consider that the site is immediately adjacent to a large Tesco superstore which sells an extensive range of crisps, snacks and fizzy drinks which are of a more attractive price-point and are easier to access.
It adds: “Overall, the proposed takeaway is not likely to increase the opportunity for unhealthy eating in a way which would be harmful to the health and well-being of the local population and therefore the proposed use will not have an unacceptable adverse impact on health in the borough.”
The takeaway site is located within an extensive car park area which serves the supermarket and other commercial units.
