A POPULAR pub in Braintree has announced it will be closing its day-to-day operations in the new year due to "constant increases in costs and uncertain business levels".
The Vine Inn, in Witham Road, Black Notley, has been a much-loved part of the community for years.
However, in a statement shared on social media, management have revealed the venue is due to close as a day-to-day pub from January 1.
The post on Facebook reads: “It is with huge regret and sadness we have to announce the Vine Inn will be closing as a day-to-day pub from the January 1.
“Our aim has always to be a warm, welcoming village pub and we have tried really hard to keep the pub open over the last few years despite everything the pandemic, the government and the cost of living crisis has thrown at us.
“However, now we have to face the reality with constant increases in costs and uncertain business levels the pub is not a viable business the way it currently operates.
“For example our utility costs alone for 2024 will be £8,000 to £9,000 more than in 2023.
“We do not believe it is viable to pass these costs onto customers who themselves are struggling with the cost of living.”
“We want to wholeheartedly and sincerely thank our regular customers who have supported the pub over the years.
“We have made some great friends, met some wonderful people and had some memorable times and really hope we will be able to announce a re-opening sometime in 2024.”
Pub bosses said they will be accepting bookings for private events from January.
