A BRAINTREE man is following his childhood dream to build up a wrestling business.
Adam Paris, 37, is the founder of Championship Xtreme Wrestling (CXW), a British wrestling promotion organisation dedicated to putting on events in Essex and further afield.
His passion for wrestling started at the age of just four when he would watch The Ultimate Warrior on television.
Adam says he adored the “larger than life” characters and completely “fell in love” with the spectacle.
Wrestling has been a constant passion throughout his life, even after he found out it was fake at the age of ten.
Adam says he “owes a lot” to the sport.
However, it wasn’t until 2020 when a series of life events including his partner being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, that he thought about making a living from wrestling.
In 2021, he finally decided to set up CXW.
He said: “I was inspired by my passion since a young age,
“I also got to a point in my life where things had changed personally. I looked to do something with my life whilst everything was up in the air.
“It started slowly but has steadily grown.
“We had an idea to do one show, but we had so much fun, we decided to do more and it’s continually gathering pace now.”
CXW held its first show at Charter Hall in Colchester in September 2021.
The wrestling organisation has now held eight events with all of its Braintree bouts taking place at Braintree Sport and Health Club, in Panfield Lane.
Adam even dresses up as a wrestler and knocks on residents’ doors to introduce CXW to the masses.
The most recent Braintree event in June 2023 was attended by 465 fight fans.
On March 30, the big return to Braintree match event will take place and attendees can look forward to an exhilarating experience.
He said: “It’s beer, sausage and wrestling.
“It’s very loud - we pack out the hall. We have barriers, so it is a safe environment.
"You are asked to make noise - cheer, and boo.
“It is a big family event. A lot of children take their parents, and the parents get into it.
“The wrestlers are very interactive.
“It is quite exciting. It is £35 a ticket for a three-hour mega show. We have storylines for each event as well.
“The aim of wrestling is like theatre. We grasp the atmosphere, we have bad guys that push boundaries and good guys you can cheer for.
“It’s just great live, interactive entertainment.”
