TEACHERS in Witham are among the first to receive “inspirational” training.
New Rickstones Academy, which recently secured its third 'good' rating by Ofsted is part of a pilot by the AET network to introduce the Instructional Excellence coaching model.
The model follows examples from America and around the world, where schools have been transformed.
Work began in the summer, with teachers following the model to enable them to teach young people at the very highest level.
Principal Simon Gibbs said: “This model helps to raise everyone’s game.
“We have designed and developed a fantastic curriculum which is really ambitious for students.
“But, that is only part of the necessary work – it would be like having a fast car and no idea how to drive it if we did not also put work into our teachers.
“We have got an amazing map outlining what we want to deliver. We are making sure all of our teachers are teaching to the very top of that.
“We are using a coaching model from America which has been used all around the world to develop the biggest transformations within schools.
“The goal is for all teachers to be coached or to become a coach and that we will become a hub of excellence which helps other schools.”
The school has seen student numbers rise from 500 to 1,100, staff numbers double, changes in leadership and the pandemic since its last inspection five years ago, when inspectors highlighted the need to improve the quality of teaching in some areas.
Mr Gibbs said: “So much has happened since our last inspection and yet we have managed to maintain our 'good' status.
“Students love it here because they can be themselves and staff are proud to work here – it was all mentioned in the Ofsted report.
“It is good that Ofsted also picked up on the one area of improvement needed as it is reflective of the work we are already doing.
“There is still work to be done and we are not resting on our laurels.
“We are consistently looking forward to be the best school we can be for the children and families of our community.”
