A DRAMA club has revealed its new comedy production coming later this month.
Witham Dramatic Club has chosen Home, I’m Darling by Laura Wade as its spring production.
In a typical 1950s kitchen, doting housewife Judy is making breakfast for her husband Johnny before he heads off to work in his best suit and tie, his lunchtime sandwiches in his briefcase.
But all is not quite as it seems in this thought-provoking comedy.
Johnny’s long-anticipated promotion seems to be receding, Judy’s mother is critical of her daughter’s lifestyle and their best friends throw a spanner into their holiday plans.
Johnny decides things are going to have to change, but Judy is determined to resist.
Home, I’m Darling was originally written for, and premiered at, the National Theatre of Wales in 2018.
It later transferred to the Royal National Theatre in London before embarking on a national tour.
In 2019 it won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy and has only very recently been released for amateur productions, making the Witham group one of the first to present this "funny, sad and clever" new play.
Home, I’m Darling can be seen at Witham Public Hall from March 20 to 23, starting at 7.45pm each night.
Tickets are just £13, with a £2 reduction for under-16 and senior citizens on March 20 and 21, and can be booked in person from Witham Town Hall or online at withamdramatic.co.uk.
For more information or to book by phone you can contact the group on 01621 892404.
