BRAINTREE Council has refused an application for up to nine new houses in the town.
The application was for a development of four-bedroom houses on land off The Mall, in London Road.
Nineteen car parking spaces would have been created for the properties.
The application was refused because it failed to show that a development of this size could adequately be accommodated on the site and comply with design standards.
The council said the proposals would have a “significant impact” on the existing trees on the site.
Planning officers had recommended the plans for refusal.
The agenda said: “When considering the planning balance, officers have concluded that the adverse impacts of granting permission would outweigh the benefits.
“Consequently, it is recommended that planning permission is refused for the proposed development.”
