A GROUP of 55 students from a popular school in Witham have embarked on an unforgettable trip to witness historic sites across three different countries.
Year 10 and 11 pupils of New Rickstones Academy, in Conrad Road, went on a trip to Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic in March.
During the eight-day adventure, students visited Berlin and took in a walking tour, visiting sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall, Jewish memorial, and Checkpoint Charlie.
Whilst in Germany, the history students visited the Topography of Terror museum to gain an insight into the abuse carried out on minority groups by the Nazis from 1933-45.
In Krakow, the group visited a salt mine and St Mary’s Cathedral, with its famous tombs and bell tower.
During their stay in Krakow, the class also visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp site to pay their respects.
In the Czech Republic capital Prague, pupils visited the city’s astronomical clock, St Vitus' Cathedral, Prague Castle and the medieval Charles Bridge.
New Rickstones history teacher James George said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for students to extend their learning outside of the classroom.
“Our students were highly commended by both tour guides for their maturity and the respect they showed while visiting Auschwitz. I could not be more proud of them.”
