RESEARCH reveals areas in Essex that experienced highest and lowest burglary rates from January 2023 to January 2024.
Home security experts Secom Plc analysed the total number of burglaries from data.police.uk and compared these figures with the latest census to identify the burglary rate per 10,000 residents.
Data includes the number of burglaries and burglary rate per 10,000 residents, identifying areas most or least likely to fall victim to burglary.
Chelmsford ranks second on the ‘more likely’ list, with 1,006 burglaries and a burglary rate of 55.45 incidents per 10,000 residents.
Uttlesford faced 407 burglaries and 44.58 incidents per 10,000 residents, placing seventh overall.
Maldon and Braintree ranked third and fourth respectively in areas least likely to be burgled.
Maldon had 201 burglaries and a rate of 30.36 incidents per 10,000 residents while Braintree had 517 burglaries and a rate of 33.1 incidents.
Alan Blake from SECOM Plc said: "To bolster home security, individuals should double-check locks on doors and windows before leaving and utilise timers for indoor lights.
“It's also wise to inform trusted neighbours of absences for added vigilance.”
