A ROAD in Braintree has been partially closed causing delays for motorists.
Essex Highways has confirmed Notley Road, between Kenworthy Road and Stone Close, is temporarily shut.
This is to allow engineers to investigate a void on the road which was reported overnight.
A road void is a gap below the surface of the land.
A spokesman for Essex Highways said: "This was identified by a team carrying out machine surfacing operations in the area, a process that requires the surface layer to be removed.
"Investigations must now take place to identify the cause of the void, which may require third-party organisations’ involvement.
"Please be aware that this unexpected closure may cause delays in the area while drivers seek alternative routes.
"It is not currently possible to reopen the road between the junctions of Kenworthy Road and Stone Close until the void is repaired.
"Further information will be provided when more details become available."
It is not the only part Notley Road to have shut today, with a section of the road also closing between Masefield Road and Longleaf Drive as firefighters tackled a garden blaze.
At the scene, firefighters reported a shed fire had spread to a garage and requested further crew from Great Dunmow.
The team worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading, whilst they rescued four dogs who were in a kennel in a garden.
