POLICE remain on the scene after a serious crash in a major Essex road this morning.
The A414 Ongar Road West is closed both ways between Bulimers Way and Wyses Road in Writtle after a crash between a lorry and a car.
Police were called shortly after 10am and remain on the scene this afternoon, with drivers advised to avoid the area.
The crash was near to the Hanging Gardens Nursery just west of the roundabout at the junction with Bulimers Way, according to Essex County Council's traffic control.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Officers remain on the scene of a serious collision on the A414 near Writtle.
"We were called shortly after 10am this morning to a collision involving a lorry and a car.
"The road remains closed in both directions near Writtle.
"We would thank road users for their patience while officers work at the scene and ask them to avoid the area if possible."
