MAGISTRATES have banned a 21-year-old from the roads for more than a year after he crashed his car in Braintree.
Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday how Daniel Beadell was under the influence of alcohol when he got behind the wheel of a Suzuki in April.
Police officers were called to the scene of a crash after Beadell, of Albemarle Gardens in Braintree, crashed the car into a wall in St Michael’s Road.
Tests showed Beadell had an alcohol concentration of 59mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit of 35mcg.
Beadell, who was unrepresented, admitted one charge of driving a motor vehicle when above the alcohol limit.
He said: “It was a misjudgement from me – I had been drinking and I thought I was safe enough to drive and ended up crashing… yeah.
“It was a big mistake from me – it won’t happen again.
“It’s not something I normally do, either – it was the first time and it will be the last time as well.”
Though no application was made for Beadell to pay damages, he was ordered to pay £602 in costs.
Beadell must serve a driving ban for 16 months.
