A SCHOOL in Rivenhall has been given an 'outstanding' rating by Ofsted.

Chatten Free School underwent an inspection by the watchdog in March this year.

Headteacher Adam Dean said: “To say I am proud of what the team here have achieved would be to vastly understate the reality of the situation.

“Chatten Free School is an almost unique provision, proving a radically different approach and curriculum for pupils who were often out of education before attending.

“This grading reflects the incredible dedication, passion and hard work of every staff member at Chatten Free School.

“It is a formal recognition of the incredible progress learners make with a very specialised approach to learning.”

The school is now looking to focus on further enhancing what it offers the children on a daily basis.

The report from OFSTED said: “Pupils embrace the school's routines. They give them a sense of security. Feeling secure prepares pupils for learning.

“Pupils make remarkable progress. Most start school with limited communication skills. Through specialised techniques, pupils learn to independently communicate their wishes and feelings.

“The trust and local authority established the school to cater for pupils with complex special educational needs or disabilities."
