A TOP tribute to an iconic rock ‘n’ roll artist is coming to Witham this weekend.
Buddy Holly’s Winter Dance Party will be at the venue on Saturday.
Buddy Holly was a Texan singer-songwriter who rocked the music world in the 1950s.
Though his career tragically ended at just 22 in a plane crash, his influence is massive.
Merging rockabilly, country, and gospel, Holly’s music, with hits like Peggy Sue and That’ll Be the Day, was fresh and energetic.
Beyond his catchy tunes, he pioneered the classic rock band format – two guitars, bass, and drums – and influenced countless future musicians, from The Beatles to Bob Dylan.
Despite his short time, Buddy Holly’s legacy as a rock ‘n’ roll pioneer remains unfaded.
In January 1959, Holly began a string of dates in the American mid-west, The Winter Dance Party Tour.
This tour included Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper, Dion & The Belmonts and Buddy Holly himself.
A total of 65 years on from what would prove to be Holly, Valens, and the Big Bopper’s last tour, the Witham show will celebrate the music of the three icons of rock ‘n’ roll along with Dion & The Belmonts hits.
A spokesman said: “From authentic attire along with Buddy’s Stratocaster guitar, the attention to detail will have you believing you are back in 1959 – a show not to be missed.
“All driven by the fabulous Counterfeit Crickets Rock n Roll Band.”
The show is at the Witham Public Hall. Doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £19.50,from Witham Town Hall, withampublichall.
