A MOTHER of an inspirational youngster is extremely “proud” of her daughter who is having her first major haircut in nearly two years and will be donating the long locks to a vital charity.
Laura Smith, from Braintree, is mum to only child Rosie Lilian Becker, eight, who is set to chop off her hair in aid of The Little Princess Trust.
The Little Princess Trust charity provides free hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other conditions.
After a small trim in April, the idea to cut off her thick blonde hair arose.
It was then suggested by Laura’s work colleague that Rosie donate the hair.
Laura then had a conversation with Rosie, who is described as a “really sassy and proper girly girl”, who loved the idea.
Laura, 33, said: “She likes having her hair done.
“She has been talking about it for ages, 'I could help all the little girls and boys who need hair'.
“Rosie thought it was just for cancer patients, but I explained it was other patients who have alopecia as well.
“I’m really proud of her, the look on her face, she was like ‘yeah, people can have my hair,’ she was so excited, she is trying to help others.”
Laura began her search for a suitable hairdresser by calling around.
She was extremely grateful that No.67 Hair & Beauty, in Manor Street, offered to do the cut for free after they were told about Rosie’s generous intention to donate the hair.
Sponsorship forms for anyone who wants to contribute to the fundraiser will be available at the hair salon, and at Rag Tag & Bobtail, in Newland Street, Witham.
Rosie said: “I feel happy because I'm helping poorly children.
"I hope I raise as much as I can to help make wigs."
The haircut will see between 12 to 13 inches of hair chopped off and is planned for a weekend before the schools break-up for the summer holidays on July 23.
A JustGiving page has been set up and donations can be made at tinyurl.com/7kud56fz.
