You might have never have considered combining a visit to a bustling American city like New York with a trip to Iceland’s hot springs and glaciers.

But one airline is now offering daily flights from London Stansted to four US locations with a free stopover of up to ten days in Reykjavik.

PLAY Airlines is enabling its customers to visit two iconic locations in one holiday, with a choice of Boston, Baltimore, New York and Washington, D.C via the airline’s hub in the Icelandic capital.

One-way fares start from £118 and will give passengers the opportunity to experience the Northern Lights en route to the USA.

Travellers could explore Boston’s picturesque 18th-century Beacon Hill neighbourhood, lined with cobblestones and antique lanterns, or soak up history on the Freedom Trail which showcases 16 locations significant to the country’s past.

Television fans can also visit the legendary Cheers pub on Beacon Street.

America’s crab capital Baltimore, where poet Edgar Allan Poe lived for much of his life, will appeal to seafood and literature lovers alike.

The charming eastern seaport with 600,000 residents is home to the Ravens football team and the National Aquarium with over 20,000 different species.

Almost 70 million people visited New York City in 2019.

Those who want a taste of the Big Apple can take advantage of PLAY’s flights into Stewart International Airport in the Hudson Valley, approximately 90 minutes from Times Square.

This small airport offers access to famous landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Central Park as well as everything New York State has to offer, including the world’s biggest Legoland park.

If landmarks are for you, Washington, D.C offers the White House, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial as well as the Smithsonian Museum, which boasts the Star-Spangled Banner and Judy Garland’s famous ruby slippers.

Visitors should fly in spring to see the city’s most famous plants in full bloom.

Washington’s cherry blossom trees were gifted by the mayor of Tokyo in 1912 as a celebration of friendship between the two peoples.

A spokesman for Stansted Airport said: "As an added benefit the low-cost carrier also offers stopovers in Iceland for no additional cost, enabling travellers to visit two countries in one trip.

"The free stopovers enable passengers to stay up to 10 days in the country to experience the island’s incredible natural wonders including waterfalls, geysers, hot springs, glaciers, and of course, the Northern Lights.

"PLAY operates daily flights from Stansted to the capital, Reykjavik, and has daily connections to all four US cities."
