WORK to give a skatepark in Witham a long-awaited upgrade has begun, council bosses have announced.
Braintree Council has confirmed the Spa Road skatepark in Witham is set to begin its “modern transformation”, with the existing metal facility has served skateboarders and BMX riders for many years.
The new concrete skatepark, designed and constructed by Bendcrete Skateparks, will retain the existing bowl while adding exciting new features for beginners and experts alike, with plenty of space to learn and practice new tricks.
It is the third and final skatepark due for an upgrade in the district, after ones in Halstead and Braintree.
There will also be a special feature called Mini Wheels, a dedicated area designed for young children to develop basic riding skills for skateboarding, scootering, cycling and BMX, away from the main action of the skatepark.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for transformation, the environment and customer services at Braintree Council, said: “When Spa Road is complete, our skateparks improvement project will be finished!
“This new facility offers something for everyone, thanks to the valuable feedback received during the public consultations.
“We appreciate everyone’s involvement in shaping this fantastic addition to the community.”
Improvements have already begun, and the area will be closed for the duration of the works undertaken, around six to eight weeks.
The rest of the park and play area remains open.
