A HEROIC Asda worker came to the rescue of a young girl in Witham.

Asda has sung the praises of store colleague Lynsey Patten, 43, who rushed to aid a 15-year-old girl who was having a seizure.

Lynsey had just finished her shift at the Witham Highfields Road supermarket and was walking home by the river.

While on the phone, she saw the young girl collapse on the pavement.

Lynsey, who is a mum of three, said: “She was on her phone talking to her friend and she just went down in front of me.

“I guy on a bike managed to get to her and stop her head hitting the concrete and I got her phone and spoke to her friend, who told me that she’d had regular fits and seizures before.

“I also phoned 999 at the same time and relayed details to the call handler on my phone.

“I found out that she can’t hear when she has a fit, but she can breathe.”

Lynsey also contacted the girl’s parents after finding the ‘in case of emergency’ number on her phone.

The young girl was in and out of consciousness, and “didn’t respond to anybody” until she heard her mum’s voice when she arrived.

Lynsey said: “It was scary, and I was shaking, but the adrenaline just took over.

“It was awful to see, and I went home and had a large glass of wine."

She continued: “The following weekend the mum came in and said that her daughter was okay.

“I was on the checkout and she came over and gave me a cuddle and said ‘thank you so much’.”

Lynsey has been nominated for a Service Superstar award by store manager Martin Read.

Martin said: “I think it’s absolutely fantastic what she did.

“I think the girl was very lucky that Lynsey was there at that time.

“She’s very bubbly, very helpful, and will do anything for anyone, colleagues and customers alike.

“She’s got that motherly, nurturing side to her and we are very fortunate to have her in our team.

“We are all proud of you, Lynsey."
