A DAUGHTER is tackling two fundraising challenges in memory of her beloved dad.
Amy Guest, 27, lost father Neil in June after a fight against health complications with his lungs following an accident at home in Little Maplestead.
Essex and Herts Air Ambulance’s speedy arrival gave Amy and her family one more month with Neil before he died peacefully with them by his side.
She decided to set two fundraising challenges for herself - a skydive from 15,000 ft, the highest available in the UK, and a 12-hour, 24-mile hike across the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
So far, Amy has raised £3,136 for Asthma and Lung UK and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.
Amy said: “I feel proud of everything I’ve been able to do so far, and I know my dad would be really proud of me, if equally terrified of the idea of me jumping out of a plane.
“But I think I get my bravery and daring from him as well.”
Amy’s fundraising target is £3,800, with £2,800 the cost of an Essex and Herts Air Ambulance mission.
With half the money she raises, Amy can provide researchers with equipment to develop treatments for lung disease, fund ten hours of life-saving research, fund a support group for a year to bring together people with a lung condition, and much more.
Amy completed her skydive this month in Cambridgeshire and will hike in the Yorkshire Dales on September 7.
She said: “I’d never done a skydive before, and I did it at 15,000ft two days after my dad’s funeral.
“The hike is about 80 per cent mental prep and focusing on putting one foot in front of the other.
“With the amount of money I wanted to raise, you have to do something quite daring, and I wanted to do something that was a challenge to me.”
Amy’s fundraiser is on Go Fund Me: ‘In Memory of Neil Guest, my Lovely Dad’.
