A POPULAR Braintree skatepark has officially reopened after undergoing a “modern” revamp.

Weavers Park in Braintree has been reopened to the public by the chairman of Braintree Council Lyn Walters, along with councillor Tom Cunningham, cabinet member for transformation, the environment, and customer services.

The original skatepark was installed around 20 years ago and proved popular with skaters, scooters and bike riders of all ages.

Now, the skatepark has been replaced with a “new and modern” design, which aims to appeal to riders of all abilities and experience.

There’s also a memorial plaque to remember Andy Wood, a young keen skateboarder who enjoyed visiting the park.

Mr Cunningham said: “The new skatepark in Weavers Park is a way to help enhance the health and well-being of our community.

“We look forward to seeing visitors enjoy the improved facilities.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in the consultation process and focus groups.”

Braintree Council worked with local volunteers, businesses and other partner organisations to host a skatepark jam event last Saturday to celebrate the opening of the park.
